Definition of a Social Entrepreneur I shared last night. This is from Greg Dees,Founding Faculty Member of Duke University's Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship - "Social entrepreneurs play the role of change agents in the social sector, by:
• Adopting a mission to create and sustain social value (not just private value),
• Recognizing and relentlessly pursuing new opportunities to serve that mission,
• Engaging in a process of continuous innovation, adaptation, and learning,
• Acting boldly without being limited by resources currently in hand, and
• Exhibiting a heightened sense of accountability to the constituencies served and for the outcomes created."

This was a fascinating program. The panelists are clearly passionate, and generous with their knowledge about social entrepreneuring.

I had no idea there were corporate entities that allow you to mix for-profit and non-profit activities, even equity financing, in one organization.

Certainly I came away with a new framework for thinking about my own dual roles, as consulting company CEO and magazine editor in the cleantech industry.

Are you a social entrepreneur? Please share your thoughts here...
